(quoted from post at 04:50:13 08/01/20) Is it a Super H with the seat? Would he brake lock be home brewed?

Paul

The H that I grew up on had a very similar brake lock. Pretty sure that my dad got it from the IH dealer, but it was not offered as an accessory from IH.

If the break lock is homebrewed than many people have had the same idea as I have seen it on other tractors.

I saw a brake lock like that at a show, and went home and built one for my H. Great for us fat boys that cannot bend far enough to reach that flipper.

I'll bet the gas cap isn't original. The original one on the H we had spurted gas on hot days like Old Faithful until dad got a
gas cap like the one in the picture.

There's still a recall on those original gas caps. There's a link online, but I can't remember what it is.

A year ago, I entered the serial numbers of my '41 H, '44 H, '51 H, and '45 M and Submitted them. A week later I got a box delivered with 5 new style gas caps. They come in boxes of 5, so someone didn't bother to repack 4 of them.

No telling what has been done to it over the years, but a SH would have a fuse holder in the E box. Jim

When I was a kid they put those easy brake locks on both of our Ms along with a lever under the seat to engage the pto.
I would of appreciated something for the brakes and clutch too, it was one or the other but I couldn't do both at the
same time.
The brake locks were different than those though. Then 60 years later I made a different style for my Super M.

Yea.... it looks a very much like my H, but for the seat. And mine has the brake lock you use the clutch foot to set it.

Paul

(quoted from post at 05:29:25 08/01/20) Also there is a pedal to left of lock that is not factory. Maybe for
clutch or accelerator.
hat pedal is most like there for a foot operated starter. I have one on my '39M. And the flat bar to lock the brake pedals together is a '39 and early '40 only feature also the tall oil filter tells me it is a early model. It does look like the seat has been changed since the '39 style seat was very uncomfortable. Many were changed to the Monroe Easy Rider seat.

Must have been used for flat-land farming. Otherwise the brake
pedals would have been worn smooth.

39 through 41 H's & M's had the starter push-button behind the steering post on the fuel tank support if they came with a factory installed starter. The "rod/bar" apperatus to the left of the brake lock mechanism is the starter "step-on" bar. This tractor has all the "aftermarket" convenience goodies that were made for H's & M's built in the '39-41 era. Later models, after 41, I think, IH put the starter button up on the steerting post, but I don't think I-H ever did a brake lock latch rod. Lots of owners of early H's & M's that had the factory starter button on the gas tank support simply drilled a hole through the steering wheel support pipe at an angle & put a 3/8 bolt through the hole so the thread end rested on the starter button. Whalla, hand starting, much easier than to try to push it with your foot!
