Seed drill question

I have a #10 IH drill with seed box that I'm going to use to reseed hay field with Orchard grass after tillage.
I have removed seed hoses to I can see if all outlets are feeding.
Does this impair germination?

No but you’ll want to roll it after you drill it . You have to mix the seed With cracked corn or oats in order to get the seed to feed them though the drill

It should feed just fine if using a seeder attachment on the front or back of the regular drill box. Our old Oliver superior had a small seed box for planting small seeds like alfalfa. Our Old Great Plains drill will seed fine with just the seed in it for Alfalfa. Do need to have a rider to finish the last of the seed in with the flat bottom in the drill box. We palnr through the tubes with no issue. The Oliver had a short tube that let it dribble on the top of the ground. We used to pull a spike tooth drag behind the drill for seed covering.

I just use a fertilizer buggy. Take my seed to farm supply store and mix with fertilizer. Set buggy for 1/2 rate. Go over it once then go back splitting my tracks. Then pull a cultipacker over it. I also cultipack at least twice before planting. Running the teeth down about 2" . I ask a friend once how many times to work ground to plant grass seed alfalfa etc. He replied. Work it till you think it's good. Then work it once or twice more.

Orchard grass will not go through the small seed box it will barely go through the big one seeds are almost an 1.5 long and they won’t drill without a carrier . I drill alfalfa and any kind of grass seed through the big box I calibrate the drill with my scale and takes all the guess work out of it

This is the variety I always end up with and it can be drilled but you need a carrier the neighbor works for the ASC office he uses compost pellets
