Just remember free isn’t always free. My experience has been if someone Wants to give you a free dog other than your Grandpa, don’t accept it. But it’s your money, do what you want with it.

Good call... I have an 8N(no loader lol).Love it. It is a handy little tractor. Pulling a rake, hauling a little spot sprayer on the carryall; blade...Little jobs the bigger tractors are too big and awkward for.As long as you stay within the parameters, they're great. As to the guys who say "worthless",Remember they were the state of the art in 1939 when they were introduced.Over 800,000 were produced, from '39 to '52.Most are still out there. There were litterally thousands of different implements designed for them. They were the best thing going....Now,the oldest one is now 81 years old. Been worn out for 50 years. Hasnt had a tuneup or oil change in 40 yearsPretty tough little tractors that set the standard for things to come.

Had a 8n and loader back in the 50's and early 60's. It was great. Front hyd pump. Hyd bucket. It also had 3 speed ax trans. 12 speed. Had wheel weights and 2/3 of a barrel of concrete on back. In 1952 a guy in our area got the first backhoe it was on a 8N. They ran it almost nonstop. Imagine a whole County with just one. Dug the foundation and basement for our post office. Bank and the list goes on and on. They were awsum. It should be in a museum.

I have late 1950 8N with a Dearborn 19-71 loader and scout backhoe on it. I call it the nerd since if you try to drive it in 4th gear your lucky to be able to steer it since the front tires are off the ground as much as on the ground

Growing up the row crop farm was an hour from the home livestock farm. At the home place (cows) we had an 8N as our loader tractor. It was amazing what one could accomplish with sheer determination and that little sucker. It didn’t even have a live pump - we just chained down the three point arms and had single acting cylinders. I usually wished I had the 966 IH loader tractor we kept at the other farm but we got by just fine.

I row crop with new(we) equipment and have cattle now but still have an 8N. I spend hours on it each summer mowing lines to run electric fence. They are still a good little tractor if you don’t expect them to run a foot race or build a shopping mall. I sure wouldn’t hook onto the 46 foot field cultivator with it!

I did the 8N with Wagner loader for about 2 years. Yes, it can be done. I could also write linear algebra equations with COBOL, but the real conundrum is - why?

Switched to an 860 with PS. Life is good, my 8N steering box will last another 70 years, and I'm starting to offload those extra muscles developed from driving the 8N around with a load in the bucket. The 8N does brush hog, some raking, and a little drilling.

Move on to something newer with live hydraulics and power steering ,you'll be glad you did. N series were about useless for anything but getting the cows and looking over crops. Like our H it has gotten to the point all we use it for is moving things in the yard and putter work like cutting wood and such.

Because you can't afford a fancy "modern" tractor. 8N is a few hundred dollars. You can't get much newer without the price shooting up into thousands.
