Wanted to check the fluid type to use for a 1967 international 424. the manual I have states everything but the correct fluid type. I just changed the hydraulic fluid which was a hy-trans fluid. Was not sure if i'm using that for the trans also, or a gear oil. Thanks...

"Especially if your hydraulic system uses that as a reservoir."

On a basic 424 (without exotic add-on hydraulics/loader/backhoe/stinger pump) the transmission/rear end oil is totally separate from the hydraulic system.

Just changed the tran oil on my 2424. I used Rotella HD fluid as it appears to meet the same standards as Hy-Tran. And I had a gift card for TSC that covered most of the price. The 2nd poster is correct, the two resevoirs are separate. 5 gallons for the tranny unless you have a front mounted pump. Be sure to remove both plugs, as the bottom of the housing is not flat and both need to come out to get out all the old oil. And obvious, but have several pails ready - it comes out fast. And for some reason I got quite a bit more than 5 gallons out, I think. Pretty sure last time I changed it I only put in 5.

Ok thanks for the input. This tractor has a lord bucket attached to it. Do you guys know what fluid would work best for that. I'd imagine that's just hydraulic fluid? Thanks for the advice in advance. I picked up an old tractor that's needs lots of tlc.
