crazy question of fall rye

Has anyone here ever seeded fall rye in spring late to early summer. as in end of June. I am hearing people say it will head out by fall and there will be no crop next year. We have some old guys that say they have always seeded in spring pastured it and combine the next year. Just wondering if anyone that has not pastured it and planted early has had it go to head the same year.
Thanks

before we get started; there may be a rye out there that does that but regular cereal rye never showed that to me! I've planted cereal rye after wheat harvest and it didn't grow much and didn't head out. the next spring i planted soybeans into it.
