I have a 1949 model R with pony motor. Completely restored by my grand dad that just died, and its willed to me. Diesel engine runs well but I cant get the pony motor started. Had the pony rebuilt, still wont start. Found the magnito is firing about 25% to early. Its firing 4 cam teeth early. Do I have the wrong magnito? Had 4 great engine guys look at it and all are scathing their heads.

Did you post your information on the John Deere board? They have a bunch of good guys over there, too. Most of them will have more specific information/knowledge about your problem than the folks here might have, in my opinion.

Do you have that link?

Don't know much about pony motors. I do know the mag on the R is backward than that of the other 2
cylinder tractors. Could they have got the motor out of time during rebuilding? I have one of
those mags for an R pony. Ron MN
