Interested in advise on treating corn borer's in sweet corn. I tried seven and eight last year without much success. Should something be done systematically at planting?

The only way to treat it systematically that I know of is to plant a BT hybrid if there is such a thing in sweet corn. Once the borer gets inside the stalk its pretty hard to kill it with any insecticide.

Once my sweet corn is finished I use a brush hog to mow it down and shred then plant either blackeye peas or a cover crop then crimson clover in the Fall never have corn boers. Also rotating where you plant things helps cut down on all disease and pest problems.

Thanks for the replys. I did do a cover crop of rye last year but rotation is more difficult as it needs to be inside our deer fence area.

A generous application of yard and garden soil insecticide will probably help. Sprinkle it on top of the ground just after planting.

Might want to plant Giant Mustard Greens as a cover crop where you plan to plant corn net year, once its tilled in next Spring it'll repel some pests. Also its some very good eating.Twilleys has the seed at a good price.
