3pt observation

morning: Just a curious question: I have noticed over the years that the adjustable link arm on the 3pt hitches [older and newer units] seem to be located on the "right hand" side when sitting on the seat. I mean on the smaller 30 +/- hp tractors, not sure of how the larger ones are setup.
Because most people are right handed? attachments such as plows were built right handed? and things could be adjusted when sitting on the seat while plowing?
With todays cabs and roll bars the adjuster most likely can't be reached anyway, I switched mine to the left so no more walking around the tractor to adjust, less steps to take, but less exercise too:) and now others have followed this idea locally.
just an observation
keep your sticks on the ice.

Some older tractors had an adjustable on on the right side because of the breaking plow, I would suppose you could adjust it from the left???

The primary purpose of the adjustable link is to level out the plow when plowing in-furrow, as in the right wheels are in the open furrow from the previous pass, and the tractor is leaning to the right.

To that end the right side of the plow would need to be raised, or the left side lowered, so the plow sits level while the tractor is leaning to the right by several degrees. Since ground clearance tends to be a precious commodity, raising ought to be the preferred solution.

If you can get the range of motion you need for whatever you're doing, I don't see a problem with switching it, though.

The right side adjustments are so you can lower the right side to start a new land when plowing. Adjusting the left would work fine but then you would also have to adjust your depth. If you just lower the right you can leave the depth the same, in theory.

My cabs have doors on both sides, so I never had that problem. :)

Seemed for adjusting the semi mount plow would need it on the right side, my plows ran the 3pt pretty low not sure I could have cranked up the left side and get the 3pt down enough to work out, I was near the limit down as it was.

The manual for my F145H semi mount plow calls for left lift link dimension (4010 tractor) 28 1/2" and right 29 1/2". So the right link is adjusted for plowing.

good reply's, and survey says as I expected the right side adjust for plowing purposes, I only do bush mowing of fields, so on the left is just a time saver of walking around, or mounting of the wood splitter/snow blower to level them.[ no right side access]
tks

Most new cabbed tractors have a facility of adjusting the Rh lift rod from inside the cab. My ‘88 MF 3060 has a telescopic square tune with the winder inside the cab. Thinking sideways here I wonder if it may also have something to do with reaching the clutch pedal. Sitting slightly ‘right’ in the seat gives good access for an emergency stop. If you sit to the left your access to the clutch pedal is not so easy. Just a thought.
