That's a problem

Pulled the pto shaft on the 951. Found the snap ring loose and lip broke off. Also found a busted ring in there. New shaft assembly on the way. I guess that will cause it to move in and out and not stay engaged!

Somebody ran it with a frozen slip joint in the PTO shaft, most likely.

Or the slip joint was working but the shaft a little too long and punched the PTO shaft inward. Had that happen on my 2000 with the snow blower when it was lowered and swayed on the hitch. Luckily it only pushed the shaft into the bearing about 1/8 inch and didn't break the housing. That's a common problem on the Fords.

Think you said the shaft halves on the mower we dead heading against each other,if so that is what did it.

TF. That was on the sickle mower. It's been on the 960. Lucky I ain't broke it yet. This is my " new" 951. First time I used the pto.
