sour tomatoes

I HAVE a cherry tomatoes bush that is healthy and full of fruit. When a ripe one is picked it is so sour that you can not eat it. Any suggestions why it is this way. Thanks for any thoughts Amo

Is it growing close to other tomato varieties?

I've heard that if tomatoes cross pollinate, you can end up with some less-than-desirable results.

I've had the little tomatoes mixed with the pear shaped ones and regular ones and have not seen where they affect each other. Be interesting to know others experiences.

Every variety is different. Some fruit has higher acid. Soil quality and nutrient testing results will affect the fruit quality. For tomatoes don't feed them much nitrogen after fruit set. For any fruit, - apples, peaches & tomatoes, etc. - less is more, for over-feeding them too much nitrogen will produce soft, mushy, poor-keeping and tasteless fruit.

(quoted from post at 14:38:20 07/21/20) I grow several different varieties in the same rows no effect on each other i can see.If seed was saved and planted net year there'd be crosses.

Thanks TF. Wasn't sure how the cross-pollination thing worked. Guess that explains why the wife's tomatoes haven't tasted 'off'. We haven't tried saving any seeds yet.

What did you put on your tomato plants? I put kelp when I plant, then side dress with Planters II,Sea90 and foliar feed with Neptune's Harvest fish/kelp blend makes for some nice good tasting tomatoes.

(quoted from post at 14:42:29 07/21/20) I'd try watering the plant with an Epsom salt water mix and see if that helps

Hey, I am soaking my feet in epsom salts as I type this. Do you want the water after I am through with it? I hate to throw it down the drain if someone can use it! Postage might be a little high though. The label on the epsom salts bag does give a dosage for plants.

epsom salts is magnesium sulphate. tomatoes need both magnesium and sulphur. i have been using it for years. three tablespoons when transplanting.
then a tablespoon at the base of the plant every couple weeks.
