Finally put a jack on it and got a new star wheel also going to replace all the bearings in the tine bars

I put a jack like that on my New Idea rake and I made another attaching pipe end which I welded up on the frame. That keeps the jack out of the way. Jacks stored by the hitch on a rake tend to take a beating.

I welded a jack in that location to mine once. Lasted about a half hour before I turned too tight and twisted it up.

I think the jack is going to get tore off...
What about that hitch, looks like a ball bearing a bolt through the draw bar?

I had to put new bearings on 1 tine bar this past winter and they are really proud of them $60+ at Messicks for the ones for my 55 rake. I'm looking for the piece that bolts to the frame and holds the center shaft for the reel on one of mine. It's cast and broken and bent to the point It would be better to replace it than weld it.

I replaced 8 of 10 bar bearings on my 55 rake about 10 years ago. Yes, was expensive at the time. But the nice thing is it hardly ever breaks a tine now. I was probably loosing 5 or more per year, easily. I bet the savings on tines is now close to the bearing cost. I’ve had my rake for 30 years and it was old when I bought it. Made in the mid 60’s I assume? I bought the 256 at auction about 8 years ago. I think all those bearings were good, which is one of the reasons I bid on it. It is nice having 2 rakes going. I can say this: the skill of the person raking will decide how the baling goes.

Well I was going to comment about the jack getting ripped off like mine did when I put it there, but I guess you guys beat me to it

I’ve got an extra pipe somewhere around here that I am going to weld onto the top of the frame for carrying the jack
