Space Station.

I just went outside with the family and watched the space station go by. That was sort of cool. Has anyone else gone out and was able to see it?

Many times. I even watched The Skylab burning overhead in Ohio as it plunged into the Atlantic. The most recent sighting was the constellation of Com satellites one after the other right at 15 minutes apart in a row. It seemed a bit much to me, and there will be more before we use better technology and stop trashing the LEO. Jim

I have seen it many times and tracked it on my phone while watching it. I live in the western part of Middle Tennessee. I tracked it on my phone and watched it in the sky. One time I could still see it when it was over the Atlantic off the Virginia coast and another I could still see it as it entered the Gulf off the Florida coast traveling south. There was an app you could put on your phone that would notify you when it was coming thru your area.

Yup, watched it 2 nights ago, seen it many times, want to try to see this current comet before it leaves, won't be back for almost 7000 yrs!

Sure have, and have spoken with the astronauts via shortwave a few times. Ive seen Starlink, and watched 2 shuttles go up, as well as one SpaceX launch of Starlink, and Americas return to space in Crew Dragon back in May. HAvent seen the comet, and probably wont get to unless I go somewhere higher to see it. Too many trees around here.

I haven't seen the space station, but a couple of months ago my daughter was outside after dark and she came in the house shouting for everyone to "quickly come outside."
We barely made it out to see about eight satellites in a row moving at a fast speed, soon all of them out of sight. She managed to capture a photo of them and put them on her Facebook page.
She's got a computer science degree, so she knows exactly what they were. Internet accessibility for every one on earth, it seems.
Thousands of satellites

So John, what did Spock have to say? I've heard that he's a great communicator in person but on the phone he lacks a bit of panache. How did you find him to converse with?

I have many times but I like my sleep and viewing is typically late night or early morning. The speed does get impressive if you watch it with binocs and see it passing in front of the star background.

All he said was "Live long, and prosper".

I havent talked with any of them in a few years now, since I sold my Ham stuff. I did get to talk with Frank Culbertson 2 days before the 9/11 attacks, and I met him oh, 9-10 years ago or so, and he actually remembered talking to me. Turns out he has family that lives very near me. Google him if you dont know who he is.

Too bad you missed the chance to talk to Spock. Meanwhile, here is some interesting stuff about Culbertson from a search ...

"He served as the Commander of the International Space Station for almost four months in 2001 and was the only U.S. citizen not on Earth when the September 11 attacks occurred."

That in itself is more than interesting ....

I went out to the end of the driveway and had a good view of it last night appearing in the SW and crossing high in the sky to vanish in the NE. Interestingly, spotthestation said it would last 6 minutes last night, but I timed it and was able to see it for 8 minutes. I think they must use an average elevation or something and my viewing was longer because I was slightly elevated and it's pretty flat around me.

I've watched it many times. It's so cool to see it suddenly "turn on" in the sky.

Yep. He wrote about the experience as well. Well worth the read. I have a pic somewhere of he and I taken at one of his relatives homes. If I can find it, Ill post it later. It was mere coincidence I met him. His uncle was one of my wifes patients. (Shes a home health nurse) He was not doing well at all, and Frank came to visit. A few other family members were there as well, and told her who he was, and what he did, and she asked if I could come meet him. I introduced myself to him and he said "Hey, are you the same John I talked to when I was on ISS just before 9/11?"

I really became intested in space and NASA when I learned Raymond Loewy, of IHs letter series deign, helped NASA on quite a few projects.

We think we saw it the night before when we were watching the comet. Was an odd plane with no flashing lights, then got to thinking....

Our local weather forecast announces times it will go over. I go out often, even though it looks the same each time! A year or so ago, I was on the phone with our 18 year old granddaughter as it went over. They live app 250 miles south of us. Because of the height of it, it appeared to be directly over both of our houses at the same time.
