Sask. Scenery

Very scenic here today with the clouds blowing by. Wind making waves of grain all alongside the roads as I took a drive to pick up a grain vac. About 100 KM round trip so I saw a fair bit of crop. By far the majority of fields were wheat or canola and that canola is about as yellow as it gets right now. Got a bit of video to go along with this picture.

Crops Along The Road

Very healthy looking crops and beautiful running truck Rusty! My grandads 78 Olds had a 403 in it and was subsequently my first car after he passed. Great video and thank you! I hope to get out to see the prairies someday after all the craziness is over.

Looks like you’ve had a good year for moisture. All of the wheat here is golden and about ready to run through the combine, and what Canola there is around is brilliant yellow and has been for close to two weeks. We are far too dry, and these crops have given up and ripened early. I see some nice ponds of water still showing up in your trip.

No shortage of moisture here now. In fact, for those wanting to make hay, it is bordering on too much. These isolated heavy thunder showers have dropped 2 inches in a pretty short time in places. Bit of hail too although I have escaped that so far.

There is a You Tube channel with a large farmer from Sask. Mike Mitchell is his name and you can find his channel under that. Pretty crazy guy but lots of good scenery and a different prospective on farming in that area.

Very nice as usual. The truck has a windshield crack too. I understand that as you have explained it before. Lots of road time with tractors and machinery. How far away is the "west farm"?

Thanks Ron. Cracked windshields are a fact of life we live with on gravel roads. I've had that truck almost 34 years and never replaced a windshield. The West farm is about 8 miles "as the crow flies" from my yard. But then I had to go almost ten miles back to the "East farm". You remember the hundred acre woods? Its there.
Its been a busy couple of days. Cleaned out nine bins with that vac.

I do remember "the hundred acre woods". I see the satellite photos don't change very often as there is still the picture of you working summerfallow in the eastern area of that farm. Seems it's been several years since I first discovered that photo of summerfallow and we commented about it.

When I was in high school (1954) my dad rented part of a large farm that an uncle rented, but the uncle couldn't handle all alone. That was about 10 miles from the small farm where we lived. I made many trips with the Farmall "M" and implement trailer moving machinery between farms. So I understand the "road time" and how unproductive it is. Those roads were all gravel. To top it off, dad lost money on the deal!

I bet the grain vac is a welcome addition to your machinery.

That land used to be farmed by my uncles with a Farmall M and Case DC in the 1950s.
The vac is not mine but I could definitely see myself owning one in the future if I stay in this business much longer.
