What is it?

It looks like possibly a block ice tong to me but not sure. Anyone know what it is?

Doesn't look like for handling ice. There are no sharp points to stick into the block. Handle doesn't look like it would be good for lifting anything heavy.

Are you sure Gerry? Would $60 be a good
price for It? There is someone wanting to
sell it. I figured someone on here may
know what it is.

Would that be a butchering tool? As a kid I watched men using a block and tackle to lower a full grown hog (dead) by it's back legs into a steel barrel of boiling water to scald, then scrape the hair off the carcass.
Would that adjustable width thing with those weak, sharp looking prongs poked into the tough hog legs do that job? Just guessing here!

Just sort of a personal opinion, but the cast looks to old to be in the era of problem calf delivery. I don’t think cattle had all that much trouble calving when they were pure bred. When cross breeding started that is when calving issues started. Without spending a lot of time it looks like cross breeding started mainly post WWII. I am going to say that device predates WWII.

You are correct a bi-directional tractor is somewhat common. It is the Essex tri-directional machine that fit Gerrys ..very rare.. description. By the way Tidwell do you keep the loaded gun or just the ammunition in the drawer with the X?
