The old belt was a 3L44. It was riding in the bottom of the drive pulley and would slip when the steering wheel was turned any amount at all and then squeal loudly. I am replacing it with a 4L44. The problem is that the pulley and the reservoir are so close to one another that the belt can not be slipped over the pulley without damaging the belt. The pulley is held on with a bolt. I held the pulley with a vise grip and attempted to remove the bolt. The P/S unit is on the left side of the engine. Is this bolt a left hand thread? I definitely do not want to break the bolt. Is the unit designed to have the reservoir removed to replace the belt? I don't think so, but I would rather remove it than to break the bolt.
