Farmall Super AV Hydraulics System Bleeding

Hello! I’m working on a 1951 Farmall Super AV for a restoration contest, and am in a pickle! I rebuilt every part on the tractor, and got the motor running and driving. I painted the tractor and am reassembling. Unfortunately, my service manual does not specify how to bleed the hydraulics, and was wondering if someone could help explain to me how to do it? I rebuilt the whole touch control unit along with the pump, and I already tried filling the system up with hydraulic oil and moving the levers while it was running, and nothing happened. Thank you so much.

No "bleeding" should be necessary, once the pump primes and circulates oil cycling the system a few times should purge it of air.

If you had the pump apart it would have been a good idea to slather the gears up a bit with Trans Gel or Vaseline.

At this point you may have to take the manifold off of the pump and squirt in a little heavy oil to get the pump to prime.

Pretty easy. Some pumps have a small plug on top, and a spring and ball under that. Don't loose the spring, but fll the opening using a squirt oil can and pumping at least 3 or 4 cans into it, then put back the ball/spring/plug. Another way. Put 15 PSI into the reservoir (drill and tap the plug for a schrader (tire valve stem) . Another is to Drive the tractor into a ditch so the front is lower then the rear by 14 or more inches. Use the levers for 5 minutes or so in each case to let air be moved out of the pump and valves. Jim
