Attention: diesel tech

I'm working on a E350 Ford to haul my John Deere crawler home. Need some info on the 7.3 diesel IDI. I'm not getting any fuel to the injectors. I have fuel through the fuel filter on the injector pump side. I have checked the voltages on the solenoid, I have 12V there. What it seems likely to me is the solenoid in the top of the pump is bad. Is there anyway to test that without pulling it out of pump?

Thanks
Keith
PS van was running when I parked it, I had no problems with it. I knoe everything was running when it was parked..lol lol

I'm not Dieseltech, but I had the same problem with a 2000 F250 gasser V10 Pulled my camper about 100 miles to a campground for work, shut it off to talk to the manager (about 5 min.) got back in and no start. Fuel pump in tank went bad just that quick it seemed. It's something you might want to check while waiting for him; Keith

How LONG has it been since engine last ran? Injection pump might need removed for a complete tear down and cleaning to free up stuck internal parts. I just went through a 93 Ford IDI pump this week for the same trouble, valves and plungers stuck from setting unused just over a year. With key on, you should see a small spark when 12V wire is touched to to terminal and hear the solenoid click if surroundings are quiet. Ignore the side terminal, that's cold advance solenoid. Top cover can be removed for solenoid replacement if needed, but replacing the cover is tricky unless solenoid is energized..

I'm going to check to see if I can hear the solenoid click when I touch an energized wire to to terminal on the pump. I have narrowed problem to the Injector pump.
What I was thinking about doing if the solenoid IS stuck is hitting it with 24 volts in quick intervals to see if I can jar it loose. Just touch the 24 V wire to the solenoid terminal momentary a half dozen times.
What do you think??

THANKS
Keith

Just a momentary touch almost the same as refrigeration repairman use on freeing up stuck motor in sealed unit. They call it rocking the motor. Kinda like hitting starter button on stuck engine.

Yep, I have lots of fuel to the injector pump, but nothing to the injectors. This is a 1989 Ford 7.3 IDI diesel which has a mechanical fuel pump, looks similar to a fuel pump on the Ford 460ci engine.

OK, I took hot 12V wire right off the battery, had a spark when I touched it to + battery post and could hear audio click of the solenoid. So now I need to tighten up fittings on the output of the fuel filter too see if I am getting any fuel to the injectors.
