Just split my 970 case to replace torque limiter plate. What kind of oil goes in flywheel housing. I&T says molylube no. 2. What is equivalent to this?

Ford Welcome to YT! Let us see if we can get this
clarified a little so you get the proper direction. I am not
sure but I think we may be dealing with a IT Manual
that covers multiple models. I think you are possibly
referring to a ..cavity.. in the center of the flywheel
where the pilot bushing sets. Does it not have a pilot
bearing I.e. roller bearing? May be possible that it is
only a bushing since this is not a releasing clutch.
Hopefully when you say oil you meant to say grease,
because the only thing to lube in there is that bearing
or bushing. If it has a bushing and it claims to instruct
you to pack it or fill I with lube I don’t think you want
that. A bunch of grease slinging out on the torque
limiter clutch surfaces would not be ideal. Sorry it has
been 30 some years since I had one of these open.
Do a web search for Moly 2 grease plenty of options
come up. If you don’t get a satisfactory answer you
may have to move you question to the J. I. Case topic
section, see link.

Check with your fuel supplier, older parts counter person at Canadian Tire or any parts store, even TSC,
farm equipment dealer. Moly grease is available here in Canada.

The 970 rear end should all have only Case Hytran oil in it.
The entire rear uses the same oil and is filled from the rear. If
your not sure what is in the rest drain it and put in real Case
Hytran oil. In this case nothing else will do.

What the book is telling you to do is fill the splined area in the flywheel with grease before you slide the halves back together, this lubes the splines deep in the flywheel where oil is slung out,, I always use the same grease I use in my grease guns, and I use a high temp lithium high quality grease rather than the basic cheap grease, as far as a IT sm they are better than no book at all but are just above nothing,, they do have a lot of info in them but it seldom separates it in a way most can understand easily, as far as hyd oil I highly recommend only hy-tran in them,,they call it some other name now but it is what works 100% Best in them,, as cheap oil is just a time bomb,, I say this as I have been selling repairing and running them since they came out in 1969,, so take my recommendation if you like or use what you want matters not to me,, but I will say these are not pace to be cheap about oil, also use the 51515 cnh aerobic flange sealant on the bellhousing/transmison flanges if you want it to seal and not leak cleaning prep here is a must, silicone here is a huge mistake but again use what you want its yours
