Tractor Umbrella Question

Any recommendations or comments about a tractor umbrella? I was looking online, and they cost upwards of two hundred dollars, just not sure how well they work or last. Thanks for the reply!

I don't think a magnet would be strong enough. I would opt for the light color not red or blue. They are hot underneath them.

My wife got a 9ft patio umbrella and bolted the pole to the fender on her Ford 640. When you don't want to use it it just come apart. Cost about $30..

I bought one of the fold down/single post type. It was fine until a breeze came up, or I headed out in road gear. You've probably seen in movies where someone's umbrella folds up into a worthless handful? This was for one of my dedicated mowing tractors. Now I have a sickle bar mower on one tractor, a bush hog on another, and a finish mower on yet another. I don't spend lots of hours on any one of them, so now I head out with a light, long sleeve shirt and my big straw hat.

Noticeably cooler under my yellow umbrella or the white canopy on my 806. But you have to care for it a little like he said. Fold down at night. Store inside away from mice in the winter. Most sell replacement fabric using your umbrella frame.

I kind of like the looks of those folding buggy top type canopies, but not sure how practical or study they are, especially in the wind.

Two patio umbrellas broke because of the wind, so that is why I wonder about a tractor umbrella and spending a couple hundred dollars on one just to have the wind break the frame. I have no clue how sturdy or well built they are....this is why I ask.

Not a bad idea. I could take a piece of PVC pipe, bolt it down, and put the umbrella pole in it. Could be a much easier and cheaper option. Thanks!

I have this style on my 4010 and 2 2510s. It really helps on a hot day. Of course they work better if there is a breeze. They have stood up to some strong winds and never had a problem.

I bought one for my Kubota so my wife stays cool when raking hay. We have some rough fields and the only trouble we had was the umbrella popping off the corner tensioning rods. A zip tie through the grommet to the rod solved that problem. I think it was 125.00 and took me an hour to install. Source- EasyAttachments dot com

Absolutely. It can be pivoted back and forth for more shade but I don't. This style is much heavier built than the umbrella style. The only time I've ever had it come down was when I forgot to fold it down going into a low shed door.

Is tractor ROPS equipped?

That is a very nice 4010. How do you like your 30 series wide front? Did you install it or did it come on the tractor when you bought it? I started farming with a 4010 diesel. Still have it but it is parked in the back of the shed awaiting an overhaul and restoration. Tom

Years ago a close friend that runs a beach front store gave me a big beach umbrella with watermelons on the outside. I was planting double crop soybeans with my 2510 fender tractor and about cooked. Not sure how I mounted it but sure was glad for the shade. A couple of the neighbors got a good laugh out of it. I also had a John Deere one on my 780 Deere swather that we used for both hay and small grain. I now have rollguards and canopies on the tractors we use most in the summer. Worst thing about them is you can get very cold early in the spring or late fall. Tom

My dad bought that 4010 new. I bought a 2510 years ago and it had an aftermarket front end. It was cracked and welded and was junk. At the time the 4010 was a loader tractor so I bought the 30 series front end and put it under that one. I then put the 4010s original front end under the 2510. Shortly thereafter I bought a skid loader and haven't put the loader back on. So the 30 series is a really nice front end but since I don't use the tractor with a loader anymore I regret changing it out. This was my dad's pride and joy. It has 3,600 hours on it and still works for a living.

I’ve always thought if I had a four posts rops and canopy I’d crawl in then wrap the four posts with some of that industrial Saran wrap be pretty nice finishing up fall plowing in November or frost seeding in December

Thought I would offer my two cents. I have done several tractor rides over the years. At first I used the umbrella top/single post type. Windy days were a challenge because umbrella wanted to flip inside out so I tied each corner to the front or back of tractor. Then changed to the buggy type. It mounts to the rear axle of the tractor (JD Two cylinder) and didn’t seem firm enough so I added a couple extra braces to various places at rear of tractor. Braces took nearly all the shake out of the umbrella and it works great. I think the shade is better with the buggy top than the square umbrella too.

My vote is for the buggy style. Got this one at Race Bros. in Carthage, MO for $110.00 8 years ago. Replaced the canopy last year. The frame tubing is the same size as 1/2" emt conduit, it's been repaired after I got it hung on a low hanging branch.

Ditto here; I had a similar one back before the cab tractor 40 years ago that had 5 or 6 ribs rather than the three and so gave a bit more coverage. The fabric on mine was a canvas that lasted fifteen summers (I only used it for haying). The tube skeleton is still out in one of the sheds, mice finally totaled the canvas.

Be sure to get one of those see-through beach umbrellas, then shorten the pole down to where it just fits nicely over your MAGA cap so that it will not snag tree branches and under old wagon sheds!

Tried a nice green and yellow job on the 212 lawn tractor and broke or twisted it off several times.

Remembering driving into old wagon shed with the 1940 SC case after a day of cultivating...forgot to take it off...but didn't hurt the shed any. LOL

My Kubota 4900 had the roll bar but no canopy. A friend bought one for about $375.my wife and I made one out of pvc pipe. Attached it to the loader frame and the roll bar frame. We covered it with a small tarp and used bungee cords to keep it tight. It works good for shade and I still have the roll bar. My friend had 375 in his. I only have 37.5 in mine. I can remove it in 5 minutes if I need to.

Put a single post umbrella on my swather, eventually I had to run two ropes from the front corners, to the headlight bar on the swather, to keep the umbrella from dancing and bouncing around. The single post works, but not the best.

I like the buggy style fender mount sun shades better

These sunshades are very durable, easy to remove if necessary. I have one one each of my 3 Case tractors. The first sunshade I bought is now nearly 30 years old. Tractors are always kept inside when not being used naturally.
