Son and I left home around 7:30 am got to Portland around 10:30,
Traffic wasn't to bad going across 205 bridge over the Columbia river into Washington. Nice drive most of the way towards beach.
Got with in about 30 miles of place to pick up crawler, pulled over to let my little dog do her job. seen little smoke coming out from under the hood, I just figured some oil had tripped onto exhaust manifold. Got back into the truck tried to start it,wouldn't start so I released hood and got out to open.Could not OR would not open it as fire was coming out between hood and radiator. Had son get out of truck with both little dogs. By this time the whole front of truck was engulfed in flames. Son and I unloaded everything out of bed of truck. and put everything on my trailer.
Truck was and is beyond saving. fire truck finally showed up, put fire out.
Needless to say I did not get to pick up the crawler.
I called a YTer---ArleninOR, He drove 125 miles one way to get my trailer and all tools, tires and 15 gals of gas and hauled back to his place, I had my nephew from Vancouver,WA get me and Shawn.
Arlen brought us home this morn,190 miles one way..with the trailer.

Little dogs, Son and I got out without any injures. just lost truck (total loss),Material things can be replaced !!!

Woof, that is serious. Good thing it didn't start a grass fire, it looks likea tinderbox on the other side of the road. Jim

Yeppers on Arlen, ya couldn't ask for better friend, Him and I have become good friends. I met Arlen about 5 or 6 years ago thur YT
Arlen is one of those guys that would give ya the shirt off his back if ya really needed it, BUT don't take advantage of him or BS him.

I really don't know how it happened or what started the fire, but you can have it real cheap!!
I wish I would have had a for sale sign I would have put it on the side "Fore sale, CHEAP!!"

Keith-OR,

That's a bummer. Glad you are OK.

Ther's no better folks in the world,
than YT'ers.

Keith I'm probably not to far from where you were. You could've used my truck and trailer. Bad luck no fun. Ever up this way and
need a hand will be glad to help. Richard

Oh, that's a sad sight.

At least you had help getting everything done.

Who knows, there may have been a reason it happened. Kept you from harms way!

I've got 60 miles to Astoria Keith. You like me. If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. RB

I met up with Arlen when we stopped in Troutdale Oregon. A really great guy.

Glad you and Shawn and the dogs are okay.

Ya I remember when you and Arlen connected at Troutdale. In my opinion you and Arlen are lot alike. When I met you both the first time, it was like I had known ya my whole life. Neither of you put on any airs.

Thanksgiving of 2017 we traveled to Vancouver WA, and I talked to Arlen a couple of times but couldn't connect. The conversations were real enjoyable! Seemed like a real nice guy...

It wouldn't have been a grass fire, it would have been a FOREST fire, we were in the coastal mountains of Oregon. we were only 2 miles from the local fire station.
