Critters are getting bigger

There’s a bunch ready to go anytime now. Have 20 more acres of hay left I’m hoping to finish this week after we get some rain that’s forecasted for tomorrow.

Likely are? We custom raise these for someone and he told
me the other day they dropped 65c/lb in the span of 2 weeks.

Everything we used to be able to count on in farming has been taken away from us in the past few years. Now things are a complete crap shoot. We have poor markets for beef, hogs, milk, cereal grains, corn and soy. And this year I can’t even count on the rain. Been 6 weeks since we have had a decent rain fall.. sucking all the fun out of farming for me.

Our local family run abbatoir went up in flames a few weeks ago. Big loss to the community and has put extra strain on custom butchering and beef rings.Beef farmers are to get some compensation from the government for herds held past their slaughter date. Wonder how that is working in this 30 plus degree heat. At the chicken processing place, operated by a Mennonite family, you book your birds spot before they are hatched. We need rain in the next few days or we will start losing crop yields.

Your cattle look great, Philip. I custom fed after the dairy herd left....it was ok and low risk, but I sure missed my cows😣

We’re finally getting some rain here but boy our first cut in our area was poor. We only had 1-2 decent rains in June and our first good one was on Sunday evening.a little cover an inch. Everything marketplace is in a slump at the moment but it’ll get a lot better in time.
