Battery Ends

There was a post about replacing battery cable ends the other day, here’s what I use from Napa. Just cut the bad end off, peel back a bit and screw it together. Kinda pricey but will save a good cable otherwise.

That would get you back beyond the 'green' corrosion. Do you know if they come in different wire sizes?

Not sure, I usually have to have them order them, there might be 2 different sizes.

You can also buy new clamps and solder them on. They come in Lefts, Rights and Straights and can be had for different wire sizes.
Of course you hafta solder them. JB won't work here.
I put shrink tubing over them when I'm done.
Get them at Napa.

I'll stick with my soldered ends. I've had some of those threaded ends to fix when the cable wiggled off and had to be replaced. The wire strands were in the grooves and held like Loctite so it was junk by the time I got it off.

I use the method that Ultradog MN uses,,I make cables out of welding cable here,,nearly every tractor that comes through here needs cable repair.

They have been around for 30/40 years they will bite you hard one day : (... Its a poor repair...

Crimp on is the best bar none yes I know a crimp tool to do it on the car is expensive... You lost your chance to do a good repair...

I agree-soldering on new ends is fast, easy and absolutely the best way. The solder penetrates the cable and cannot come loose. I have soldered many, many new ends on in my career. Mark.

If the wires inside the cable are green and crunchy, what do you do if the good stuff is too far back in to reach the battery?

Do they make a connector that has a 12" long socket?

Soldering a new end doesn't do you much good if the cable is 6" too short because you had to trim it back that far to get to good wire.
