Knee high by the fourth?

Crops here are looking pretty good.

Corn is well over knee high, should be tasseling in a week or so. Oats is starting to turn, so a couple weeks and that will be ready to cut. The rain we got last Sunday is about gone so more would be great. Looks like maybe Monday, says 80% but last time it said that we got nothing. Hay is growing but very slow, likely get only two cuttings instead of 3 or 4 as usual and those will be small.

What are yours looking like?

In these modern times that saying is pretty well obsolete. Most of the time it's knee high by Father's Day. And if it isn't, most folks feel it is behind.

Some fields of corn don't look too good close in, other stuff looks alright, we are not getting much hay this year, after having some good spring rains. Don't know what stuff further out looks like this year with being sick since January and not being able to get out. North eastern Co.

These pictures were June 28 and July 2. It was just over knee-high on me on the 28th. We're far enough north that "knee-high by the 4th" is still at least somewhat relevant. Oats got planted kinda late, so are just heading out now. Hay is growing well, we should get 3-4 cutting on most hay ground this year.

We haven had a decent rain in nearly a month, and nothing forecasted for another week. Corn is above the knee, but looks more like pineapple plants. First cut was light, and second cutting hasn’t happened yet, it will be short that’s for sure. This is now the third year of getting long dry periods during our short growing season. Starting to make me wonder how much longer I want to play this game. 4x4 hay bales are bringing $75.00 each already. I need at least 70 bales per month.

Here in END, some corn is chest high, some ankle high depending on planting and the ground it is on. Some of the beans have almost closed the canopy which is really early. Much of the small grain headed a couple weeks ago and is very thin.

Sorry Jon but if my corn looked like that in July I would be ready to take a brush cutter to it.
Field corn has been in full tassel for weeks and we have already eaten our sweet corn.
But I guess it looks good for you snow birds.

I did notice in my travels back and forth to Alabama the past few weeks that they are having a bumper crop of Kudzu this year.

Everything local was late in and wanting moisture so very little is knee high when waist to shoulder high would be more typical.

Jon what maturity corn do you plant in your neck of the woods? Here in NWIA 113 day is getting pretty late though some guys plant it and pay the drying bill in the fall. I plant no later than 105 day.

Here in southwest WI the beans are knee high and most of the corn is shoulder high. Looks like a good crop but not a bin buster as we did not get the good emergence we usually get. We had corn 1 ft tall and three inches high side by side. The rye is starting to turn as well as the oats. Many are done or doing second crop alfalfa hay. We plan to direct cut our oats this week and make a 200ft. silage bag. I was in Springfield IL or Thursday and the crops look good. No tassels yet but looked close. Tom

I enjoy reading threads like these but wonder if some of you are in the witness protection program??? Its nice to know that corn is waist high somewhere, but are you in NW Iowa or Maine? Let us know where your crops are located!

In the sandy areas they plant 90-100 day. Right close by most
plant 85-95 day. This is 87 day I believe.

Too early to tell on the corn yet, but I'm sure I'll get more oats from this few acres than I got from nearly 40 last year. But that was a near complete failure.

Shoulder high on this guy, but then I'm only 5'8" tall . That's south of Madison, Wi.
The brothers that rent are land said when they planted it in mid May they were
1900 hundred acres ahead of last year at that time. They hadn't even started yet
a year ago. It's been a good year so far for crops here.

Middle Tennessee over my head and full tassel setting good ears, if we do not get bad dry in August going to be a bumper corn crop around this area.

I had my wife take a pic of me in the corn by our house this morning, I'm 5'7" tall and it is over my head.

Amen! Amen again! I love to hear about crops and weather and propane prices and auction results, etc., but the "here" is a vital part of such reports. I've whined bitterly about the lack of where is "here" many times over the years on YT boards, but some folks obviously don't care about my annoying curiosity, which I'd guess a few others share. So thanks, Shaler, for bringing the topic up again to save me the embarrassment of whining anew.

(Unrepentant whiner in south-central Minnesota.)

I just assume everyone knows I'm from East central Mn, but maybe that's not the case.

Come on west 100 miles, west central MN, and it's 18" or so and starting to curl. Since April 1st !'ve had less than 3" of rain, not even an inch in the past month. .2 here, .25 there, never any more and a week apart. None of the heavy rains of a week ago shed a drop. Little Falls, about an hour East of me, had 8" in the dump a week ago....... Larry

My garden sweet corn is waist high and tasseling out. Making ears on about half. Last years seed though. The autocorrect tried to turn tasseling into tasering. Guess computers know more about Star-trek than corn.

the field across the road from the house. Linda took the picture on the Fourth. I'm 6' tall. I also have some later planted that is just over knee high.

Geez, I got $40.00 for some of mine a couple weeks ago. Should've held out lol. Glad I put some in the barn. Corn here in Eastern Ont. is knee high and curled. Praying for rain here too

Jon; Crops look about the same here. After a nice stretch of great haying weather, we started getting some afternoon Tstorms. Nothing violent, but picked some much needed 1/4-1/2" afternoon showers. Pictures of the strips along the farm road up to the upper town road. You can nearly hear the corn growing now. Hoping the moisture will fill out the heads on the oats, and the beans are really canopying out nicely now. It was really getting dry. About 4-5" shy of rain for May and June.

Wow, there are some nice corn pictures on here. Not much corn planted in my part of the state. Guy renting our ground has beans in, but not growing much with our lack of rain. Has about a 3 inch stand on them and they've been in the ground a month now. We just need rain!
