What's it worth

A 1980 Dodge Ram 150. It's a 6 with a bad transmission. Nice body, new tires Probably with a new tranny, it will make a good pickup. Any thoughts on the value, or should it go the scrapper? Stan

If the body has no rust, it would be worth a decent amount here in Michigan the rust belt. Would be hard pressed to find any 1980 of any brands on the road here.

Scrap value. If the tires are really new take them off and put them on craigslist. Everything else goes to the furnace.

If you can do the work kits to rebuild them are cheep and the instruction are on the web.

Do you own the truck or are you thinking of buying it to fix and flip it? 4WD? There is really no national "book value" on vehicles that old because the typical 50 to 80 percent rust free 40 year old pickup would have been scrapped over a decade ago. Your pickup might have some value as a collector car.

The Southern California car market is very different from the market in the corn/rust belt. I would ask some local shops about the value of your pickup. Please post some pictures and let us know the result!

I am cleaning up eight pickups, and four cars my brother left me when he died the first of the year. All have a problem. He was going to fix them, but never got around to it. Stan

Somewhere out there are a couple guys that need it really bad. Get them bidding against each other and you could make some money on it. Just let them know about it.

I am not a Mopar fan so to me it would basically be scrap.

Son had the identical truck given to him, rusty but running.

A friend of a friend of his heard about it and offered him $600 for it, he didn't care about the body all he wanted was the engine.

Still good demand for that engine it was used in a bit of everything; combines, swathers, irrigation pumps, cars, trucks, airport and industrial equipment...

Advertised as a truck with a bad tranny might not bring much.

Advertised as a good running 225 slant 6 that can be heard running I think would get more interest.

My middle son found out his 2003 Buick needed front end work to stop wearing tires abnormally- more than what he thought the car was worth. He found a replacement car, then posted his car on FB Marketplace, got $500 for it within hours, from a guy willing/able to fix the front end himself. Ten times scrap value.

No doubt, I'd list it and see, as is. Good luck!
