Good nite groundhogs

The engine of death. Two weeks ago I let the ole ford run in
their hole and still no sign of them.

Mother nature helps you, too. Carbon monoxide is heaver than oxygen so it sinks to the bottom of the hole, like LP will. Someplace around here I have a video tape (that tells us how long I've had it) of a deal that a guy from ND was selling that used an LP Gas gun to get pocket gophers. Bury the end of the "hose" at a hole "door", set the timer, make sure the battery has a charge, open the valve and set back to watch for the ground to jump when it goes off. Concussion in the tunnel did the job for you. It was claimed to work well.

That's an old idea that still works. I'm 76 and used that technique when I was in high school. No I didn't have an old Ford but any not particularly well tuned vehicle will work, remember it needs to be poorly tuned up enough to produce Carbon Monoxide and a hose or something big enough to slip over the exhaust pipe. When I did it used an 50's vintage pickup that missed horrible and a piece of fire hose. Then sealed the end mole tubes and waited at the other end till I could smell the exhaust. Dead moles resulted.

Another trick that I learned recently with ground hogs is to dump the soaked up kitty litter in the hole--*I mean really fill it up. Seal it and the ground hogs go elsewhere. You want to get rid of the litter and the ground hogs and this is working. Is the smell that bad or the threat of the cat I don't know but...

One good thing about coyotes, since we got then a lot fewer groundhog holes in the hay fields. I have mowed at night and they come right out and inspect the windrows for mice. I got a couple of hawks who come right out and inspect windrow while I am still mowing. I learned not to leave a tractor in the mowed hay field as they like to roost on the seat, I guess it makes a good vantage point to watch the field for rodents.

We have the Daughters 2 Husky dogs in a fenced area in the back yard. The other day there was a dead ground hog in there ! Must of snuck in through the gap by the gate or climbed the fence ? Maybe trying to eat the dog food ? I did not see any area around the bottom of the fence disturbed.

I have many gopher holes in are yard and I been thinking of using a piece of pvc pipe
and my cub cadet. How long should you run it and will this cause any damage to
the motor.

Here is what I use on moles. Helps if the tractor has a carburetor and choke as applying the choke gives them a good dose of CO (carbon monoxide).

Pipe is

flexible exhaust pipe from auto supply store (o'Reilly's) 1 1/2" and six feet long, Less than $11. Part number is 46971 Nickson manufacturer

Whole crew of young ones just getting on their own moved in the other day, seen them across the lane, now they are here. What's funny is I did not put my mulch down in the small garden, will weed it by hand, then finally mulch that over, put fence up. They won't touch the tomatoes, corn or peppers, just the pig weed and the plantains on the lawn ! I do spray deer repellent often but the rain washed it, still won't touch those plants. I'll end up using the .22 more than likely, it gets old having to do that, worse if you don't !
