That JD Cylinder again

Some progress on the 146 JD bucket cylinder. With extra help we got it apart but found the seal kit is not the right one. Reading through the parts book online there are 3 different options for this cylinder and none of them look exactly like mine. Mine has the round end and all those in the book have square end for the pin. Might not matter but it makes me suspicious that this cylinder might be from another loader and hard to match up a seal kit in the parts book.
Still recovering from shock when I asked him the price of a complete new cylinder. Just over $1600!!!!

Is there a hydraulic component repair shop near to you even if a couple hours away by car? I take things to such a shop that is about an hour away versus paying OEM
prices. The repairs hold up well even if the parts are not exactly OEM in configuration. I paid 18 dollars for a packing for a planter folding cylinder that would have been
over 175 dollars from Deere just this past spring. I've got a leaky cylinder on the 148 loader that I will pull apart and visit the same shop for a solution.

I figured you hadn't priced a cylinder when you posted about buying one before.

That cylinder looks the same as the bucket cylinders on my 145 loader, but I expect it has a bit longer stroke. The rod end of mine is round as well but the 145 parts drawing shows the rod end as square where the pin bore is, drawings are not always exactly correct. The 146 cylinder you posted the link to uses the same kit as the 145 bucket cylinder. That kit number is AW16444.

There are several online seal supplies now.

Around here the hydraulic shops have gotten real uninterested in selling seals. They want to sell cylinders and service.

If you find a seal supply near by, just take the clean seals and even the cylinder just in case there is a question.

Or you can try to go through their catalog and match them. That can be a daunting process as there are thousands that look and measure alike but are not quite right.

Or my choice, mail them the sample parts with dimensions and application, as in pressure and type oil. They will match them up, bill your card, and mail them to you.

$1600! I just put a new bucket cylinder on my WL42 Westendorf. It was $500 through a dealer. I assume the Deere cylinder and the Westendorf cylinder are similar in size and construction.

Yes, hydraulic repair shop would probably the way to go on this one. Not sure if the local one I last went to is still in business. I won't take it to the one in
the city that messed up the rebuild on my 1660 combine hydro but there are others I guess. Got some other issues at the moment so I might not get back to it
today.
