Someone got in a hurry last year and didn’t check the oil in the gear box ran it out of oil the chain broke and wadded up and stopped the shaft but 65 hp kept trying to turn it . I now have a lifetime supply of the shaft .

I have enough to make one more . Hopefully won’t ever need another one .

SV about every time I get hurt or tear something up it seems I am in a hurry. An amish friend told me if you go at a job like you just have 15 minutes it will take all day but if you act like you have all day it will take 15 minutes.I don't think I have learned yet.

Maybe I should ? The problem is they aren’t cheap about a
100 dollars a stick . Got the new one from my cnh dealer for
65$ plus freight it’ll end up around 100 dollars but the internet
was 75$ Free shipping on eBay and I need it yesterday so I
didn’t think the local price was to bad

Oh it ruined bearings which wedged in the Chain and broke it . That was last year but I got looking at the shaft this year and thought I’d better replace that

The ratchet safety slipclutch should have simply slipped, scared the crap out of you, and protected the PTO shaft.

Did the broken chain jam the slipclutch, or is there some other reason it didn't do it's job (set up WAY too tight by a "helpful" P.O., perhaps)?

I would check it out before putting the machine back in service.

IIRC, the Operator's Manual shows a procedure for setting up the clutch using a torque wrench.

For that matter, has the slipclutch ever slipped while you were using the mower?

The slip clutch probably hasn’t slipped in 60 years it did finally
slip but it was to late .
