Cool old truck and cable shovel. Together, not sure they make the best marriage.

Looks like they might have used the cab roof to rest the bucket from time to time.

When I was a kid, the local gravel pit
owner-contractor had one similar to that
on a half-track. It was still setting
abandoned in a pit a few years ago.
(A few?) Maybe it was 25-30, when I think
about it for a minute.

My Uncle Russ had one similar a B61 Mack with a Bantam on the back. When he died his black widow sold all the equipment for scrap
at .10 a pound.

Fellow I used to know (He's long passed away) had two of those on IHC 1/2 cab trucks.
Kept the cable hoe on one and a dragline boom on the other.(Hence the 1/2 cabs.)
He dug a couple basements for Dad. He was GOOD!! Didn't the dig or level anything
after he was done!

His story was he went to Ft.Peck Dam during construction to get a job.
He got in a long line and got to the window. He asked what kind of help you need?
The clerk says "you know how to run a drag line?"
Joe replied "no, but I can learn!" Clerk says, "No, experienced only. NEXT!"
So the story goes, Joe went out that night, found an idle drag line by a pile of gravel.
He moved the pile over, then moved it back with the drag line.
Next morning he went to the Ceark and says, "I'm experienced!"
He got hired!!!

Guy down the road had a similar rig, mounted on a WWII half-track. He put in a lot of docks with it. Died about 5 years ago, think it was scrapped
out.
