Saying goodbye to old tractors

Sadly, I recently had to say goodbye to some of the two oldest tractors we own. One was a 1939 John Deere H, and the other was a 1952 John Deere B. Sad to see them go, especially for barn space. I overhear my grandfather and his neighbor talking about them being the last generation that knows how to run those tractors. The Baby Boomers is really a dying breed that needs to come back. I wish I was born in the fifties. The way it was. I wish it was still that way a lot.

Well, I don't miss forking out a ton of cow manure every night or putting up 5000 small square bales or driving an open tractor in heat dust rain or spray drift...but I do get a bit nostalgic when I fire the old 44 or the 630....good memories linger longer than bad ones perhaps.

I'm with you on this. I just parted ways with 3 tractors. An allis, a farmall, and my case backhoe. I'm a massey guy at heart and 2 of these tractors have not moved in the last 5 years. Reason being they were all blocked in by other stuff. I wanted to fund another project and I haven't used the backhoe in awhile and saw no more uses. Long story short I got more than enough money to fund my new project, but it still lingers in me that they are gone. They all went to places that I'm pretty sure they will be enjoyed and used. I got some barn space back and was able to rearrange things to be able to use my Massey tractors again. So in the long run I want to think I did the right thing, but the kid in me still feels like I lost a few toys. Maybe when the new project shows up it will be like Christmas morning again and I'll get to play with a new, albeit bigger, toy.

What was the AC you sold?

I felt a twinge of guilt when I sold my fathers JD 2510. But after getting my 2520, the 2510 was under powered, and in the way.

I'm a Ford guy but do not miss forking manure or putting up 5000 squares per year--a lot stacked in abandon stables!I still do 4000 squares per year bur have one reliable helper to run equipment and I run the NH bale wagon.

I still get to pitch some cow manure, only 11 stalls not on stable cleaner, no big deal. And I don’t miss small square bales either, nor do I really miss milking with Surge Bucket milkers, and carrying the milk to the milk house. Old days were fine while we lived them, but I like many of the new ways better.

I run a tractor sanctuary once they come here they don’t leave maybe I should run an ad on tv about the horrific conditions some tractors are forced to live in some even end up in the scrap yard conditions so bad we can’t show them on tv. I desperately need 5000$ in the next two weeks to save the lives of innocent tractors 😂😂😂

SV, come on now really, how many tractors can you save with a paltry 5K. You should go for 5 million. You will need to put climate controlled buildings up. The tractors need to be protected from condensation.
