Good and bad of a MF 231S

My wife's nephew is looking at a MF 231S what are the good and bad of these tractors.

I have a MF 231 I don't know that the S stands for. I put a lot of hours on mine mowing. Mine was made in Poland. Except for poor brakes I have no other complaints. Mine has a 3 cylinder Perkins diesel with lots of power for my 6 ft rotary mower. Stan

Made in Poland. Customer brought his to my shop to have the clutch adjusted. He pressed the pedal down and the crankshaft thrust foreword about a quarter of an inch. We tore it down and they had left the thrust bearing out of the crank in the factory. We had to have the block machined and a special thrust bearing made. It has been plagued with steering problems and oil leaks. Not my choice for a good tractor.

I use a neighbors pretty often. It has about 850 hours on it and has been a good tractor.

I had a 231. The s is a little
newer model. I had no
complaints and put about 1500
hrs on it. Its a basic tractor
with no frills but was
dependable and got the job
done. I relaced it for a
bigger tractor.

The 231S has a bigger engine than the 231 & more hp. (made in Turkey). It's more desirable
than the 231.

we had a 231 and the only complaints I had with it was the brakes and it rode so ruff.
