8N Hydraulic fluid Type

I have an 8n and am changing the fluid in the hydraulic/transmission.

I have read the YT forum on this.

I am not trying to duplicate the original mineral oil or meet all these specifications that are listed.

Can someone comment on what fluid they use that is readily available?

Any help would be appreciated!

Many thanks,

Walt

If your in colder climate and use it when it’s cold you should run the mineral oil as it is white metal safe. When I work on those tractors and change the oil I always go with 90 weight mineral. Your local Napa store should be able to get it.

Yep, 90 wt mineral oil in my 8N tractor for 68 years.
It has been in the family since new.
If it gets down below 20, it takes a little while to warm up, but will still lift the 3 point even below 20 at startup.

Thanks Richard. My Grandfather bought this new, gave it to my Father and he to me, so also in the family for generations.

Great information!

Ford-New Holland now recommends a UTF that meets the New Holland 134 oil specs. I've been using that in my 8N for over 30 years with no problems. Works much better in cold weather also.

Walt, the newer oils are much better than the older oils that were specified.
I've been using TSC Traveler brand UTF for years and it works fine.
Far better in the winter for performance when chilly out.
About $40 for a 5 gallon pail. Less when on sale.
Not the 303 stuff, the one pictured. It lists Ford M2C134D spec on the back too.

Can you show me where they recommend 134 oil in a Ford 8n? Where do they say you can no longer use 90 or 80wt oils?

And does it say which.....134, 134a, 134b, 134c, 134d, e, f, or g?

And what about Ambra? Mastertrans, or multi G, 200a?
