White backhoe

I was wondering, is there another name that the White 4-80-17 backhoe loader went by? Like 280?(first 3 digits of model#) I’m wondering because my searches aren’t coming up with much. I assume they made lots of these. Can I use any information for reference from its predecessor the Oliver White 1655?

Interesting situation you found it in, why did they leave it for dead?

Sorry, I don't have any information about the White but it looks like a good machine.

Thanks for the link. I had found most of that information
already, just not all in one place. Muchly appreciated.

Apparently the owner passed away and when the property
sold, it was the new owner that wanted it gone. All 4 tires still
had air in them still so I thought that was a good sign. It has
been sandblasted and painted with some of the metal fixed
post blast. Someone was fixing it up obviously. The neighbor
said she lived there 25 years and had never seen it move.

(quoted from post at 09:47:29 06/09/20) I was called to pick it up for scrap. I just can t bring myself to
do it.

Might get a good-running machine for your efforts. Front Hyd pistons look shiny so that's good.

You'll have a lot of fans here for trying to save it. Prepare to take a bow :). Probably enough combined knowledge here to fix up two or three of them. We live for dead machines. I won't be much help, though--all I can do to keep my old loader tractor in one piece.

Looking at the pics, wild guess--Pacific Northwest?

Here’s a better picture.

I think when it goes past 9,999.9hrs that last dash on the right will become the 1/10 number

Thanks for your comments Gerrit. I have a long way to go.
Unfortunately the hydraulic rams are pitted where exposed.
That’s what we get for living in... Gibsons, Sunshine Coast,
British Columbia. The machine was about 200’ from the ocean this whole time.
I really do appreciate the help I get onYT as I have no service
manual at this point.

Good looking project for sure...might be a part of background scenery or used on set construction
on the "Beachcombers" filming...a tv princess waiting to shine?
There's a good number on here that know the show..:)
good luck and enjoy it.....

I wonder if it had an older Oliver relative.

Contact 3point ink, they do Oliver Heritage magazine.

Haha, ya most of us on this site will be old enough to remember the beachcombers tv show. That’s my backyard.
We had a White Truck assembly plant in Kelowna but I don’t remember seeing anyone operate one of the backhoes. This isn’t combine country either.

Complete for $4000. Not running. Is that a good price? My way of thinking is, depending on what it cost to get going. An older good 4 wheel drive backhoe in this area will go for $20k. Mostly Cat or Case. Mine was free but Ive got trucking and labor into it for about 2000 loonies. Oh and a tube for $70

They have a 283 waukesha so parts are pretty easy. I'm thinking it would be based off a 1655. I can tell you the 4 is for 4x4. The 80 is for 80hp and 17 is the depth it will reach. Might get some better info down in the Oliver section.

Parts for the Waukesha 283 are readily available? Great.
I have posted over there also. I’m diversifying to try and catch anyone who has experience with the 4-80-17
I’m new here and have lots of questions.

Hopefully you weren’t trying to be funny. That dash on the right is the ...minutes... dial or the ...yep it is working dial... The dial rotates similar to a wheel in an older electric meter. I have seen some newer style hour meters that aren’t full on electronic ..digital.. with a small maybe 1/4” diameter clock hand or tumbling hour glass rotating to show it is counting.

Nope just a guess as to what hat happens at ten thousand. Maybe if I would have seen it working I’d have figured it out. Thanks for pointing out my rookie mistake. I’m going to get a lot of corrections with my questions and descriptions I’m sure, but that’s ok I’m learning.

Korves oliver parts is a great source. They could probably also answer lots of questions too. Lots of parts available through agco aswell. They have a online parts look up.

Thanks for the information Olliejunkie. I will definitely check
them out as soon as I figure out what I need. I’m happy to
hear there’s parts available. I thought I was going to be
searching far and wide.
It’s stopped raining so I’m going out to undo the bolts 1/2” on
the brake side plate. Hopefully that will release the brakes and
I can get it to roll.

Some parts might not be available new anymore. The reverser would be something to look into. Probably not as easy to find parts.
Brakes should free up easy.

Yes , I have the reverse O torc. I’m crossing my fingers that
the problem is the brakes and not the gears locked up. Gear
oil looks really good, no contamination. All linkages are free,
so that’s a good sign. I still haven’t got the engine to turn over
though.

Thank you. Yes Lenray has responded on my topics. I do appreciate all the help I get on this site, from everyone.
