Deere planter

I know this isn’t really tractor or classic related but I thought I
would check the brain trust on here. I have a 1997 1780 12/23
conservation till and this week is has started going a little
nuts. Some times when I turn on the end row and start to put
the planter in the ground it starts to fold up on me and I have
to stop switch to transport mode and unfold the planter to get
the lock hooks to catch on the sliding frame. I have tightened
the hook adjustment rod as tight as it will go and it is still
doing it. Tonight it was only doing it on the north end of the
field and with turning and trying to find my marker and get the
planter back in the ground I can’t see what exactly is going on
for sure and it doesn’t do it every time and seems to be worse
right after I’ve unfolded and began planting. After a while it will
stop trying to fold. It only does it as I drop the planter back into
the ground. Everything seems to be working fine it folds and
unfolds as normal I’m just getting 8-10 unexpected fold ups
per field. Does anyone have any experience with this?

your hook latch is not falling down over the plates they lock to...…when unfolding.try driving forword when the planter is almost in posesion and watch those hook to see them drop in place,,,if those hooks don't drop down there not hooked

They seem to be hooking but it’s like the hitch jumps up as I’m letting it down. I’m not sure maybe this is just a bad side of having negative hitch weight when the 3 bushel boxes are full. I looked around over on ag talk but no one seemed to be having this problem. I guess if it wasn’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all

I don't get along with this planter. I help the guy that rents from me. He has a 16/31 behind a 8400 that I sold him. The fans kick out, you can't clean out the hoppers like the 24 row, plus the 8400 has the steering wheel GPS. The planter fries the hydraulic outlets like my red 1200 planter that I had. But it worked better this year. His Ag Leader monitor and GPS on his 8420 and 24 row is much better than Deere.
