Harvest Done

Finally got the 2019 crop harvested today, May 31. One day swathing, the next combining. Probably lost about half the yield to heads broke off, wildlife, etc. At 10.4% it sure is dry. That wheat straw went though the combine like nothing and there was not much came out the back but dusty chaff.

I've done a few spring harvests over the years but usually earlier than this. I wanted to eliminate the chances of getting stuck with the swather and combine. It worked. Here is the swathing video. Pretty short as I had to pay 110% attention to cutting height trying to miss the badger mounds and mole hills. Only found one deer antler. Not in a tire luckily.

Really glad you get er done. How many acres is that field? Does it come out at least
ahead of your costs? Sure hope so. Hope I'm not prying in with questions I shouldn't ask.

I am shocked you were able to capture half the yield. I would have thought the snow would have flattened it beyond pickup.

I have never seen wheat harvested like
that! Does your swather have crushers
rollers in it? I'm happy that you were able
to save as much as you did!

The swathing is just the first part of the operation. I came in the next day with the combine to thresh it. There will be some video of that soon.

No problem Ron. Its actually my brother's field and I just do the work of cropping it. The only one making money on this crop is the trucker who hauls it to the terminal. The fertilizer and herbicide suppliers all made their share off it a year ago. I guess Viterra will make a little profit somewhere down the line but as far as the guy that grows it,,, its in the negative return column.
