What s the scam here

So I ve been seeing this a lot lately on Craigslist. A very nice super clean tractor with low hours for a very cheap price.... so cheap that I know it s not legit.... plus these ads only last a few hours before being flagged.

I m just wondering what does someone get out of this? Unless they are selling a stolen tractor there is no other reason I can think of.

Thoughts?

They don t have a tractor to sell. They want your money and you never get the tractor. Usually involves The tractor needing to be shipped that s why it s so cheap.

They are preying on gullible people, we have lots of them in our country. Occasionally they get one and make a few bucks. I flag
them whenever I see one, you should too!

Neither they are harvesting e-mails, I had a young lady tell me a kubota add like that got more
answers than anything she could post. She gets 2 cents each for valid e-mails . Hard way to make a
living according to her but she also said she was getting by pretty good.

well the tractor won’t be in their shed so they can’t show it to you, and the owner can’t be contacted by you because he is overseas fighting a war, need the money for
his new kid or some such sob story. But it’s a super good deal just send the money to help the family out.......

Can be as simple as harvesting emails as someone mentioned.

More likely they will want you to reply with a code to ‘know you are legit.’

What they have done is used your phone number to set up a Google phone account, and need the code that gets sent to your phone number to create the account and
then use it for themselves and more dishonest activity.

I made a mistake this one was actually on FB marketplace but I see the same ads on Craigslist too...

And get this, the sellers name is.... Justin Bieber!!!

I flagged a bunch for over a week several times per day. They would be back hours later or the next day. Creeps. The email is often an inset in the photo. They even tried to block my flagging X and view of flagged items. I had to powerwash my chromebook to get rid of it.

I think the majority of them are from outside the U.S. and in a non English speaking country. The phrasing appears to be from someone not exactly familiar with the english language phrasing, but some seem well organized and at least somewhat computer savy.

I find the old expression "If it seems too good to be true it probably is" to be the rule on ebay. The most irritating thing is I set my normal search parameters to include nearby cities and states. I ended up with as many as 20 or more or the same or slightly different ads.

I then went to Search Tempest and set the search parameters to any distance. These same ads are appearing all across the country.
A relative almost got sucked in until I told him of this.

They tell you it can't be inspected because its wrapped for shipment (they need to sell fast and knew it wouldn't last long at that price, so they have it ready to ship). They tell you to send the money,
they'll ship the item, and if you don't like it, let them know within 3 days and they'll come pick it up and refund your money. If you fall for it and finally suspect foul play and try to email them back, the
email bounces and you realize that you have no other way to figure out how to go after them. Bye bye, $$$.

I agree this is the reason behind most of those ads. Usually the case that there's an email address to reply to so now they have your email instead of the blind reply through CL.

Some of the ads could also be trying to scam you out of money but I think mostly they want your email address to sell to other interested parties.

What does someone get out of this. Very simple. They get money and you get nothing. This scam has been around for years.

Let's say there are 10,000 Scamming outfits lurking on the web and they pay for email addresses. I'll sell mine for $1 per outfit, so I pocked $10,000 and delete their ads and scam emails. Simple way to make a buck, how do I contact those guys?
