Sediment Bowl

I am newer when it comes to working solo on tractors. The sediment bowl on my F20 looks like it isn't full of fuel because I see liquid and then particles floating maybe half an inch from the bottom of the bowl and nothing above it. I read somewhere online that it could mean the bottom part where I only see the liquid could be water but then the gas is above that? Should I turn the gas off and remove the sediment to clean it out? I plan to remove the gas tank this winter and seal it from the inside because the particles I believe are rust pieces. I had a pinhole leak that I fixed from the exterior by using Seal All so it's fine for the summer is the plan.

Thanks for the help!

Shut off the valve above the glass bowl. Loosen the bale holding the glass to the metal. Swing the bale out of the way (careful, the glass might be loose at this point). Remove the bowl and empty it into a tin can or anything but styrene foam. If there was nothing in the bowl but that small amount in the bottom, the outlet in the tank might be plugged up. Use that can, and put it under the opening of the valve. Open the valve and let fuel out. if cruddy, keep letting some out till it runs clear. You may need to replace the gasket if it gets destroyed. Auto parts stores have them, match the size, and thickness. Don't ask what it came off of. Jim

Water settling to the bottom of the bowl is common IF you are running straight gasoline, not ethanol blend.

If it has E10 in the tank, and there is water in the bowl, likely the tank is really saturated with water. It will need to be dumped out, rinsed with some E85 if you can find it. Be careful handling the tank. If it's already developed a pin hole, you can bet there are other thin spots.

If the flow through the tank valve is not good the screen inside the tank may be clogged. Try blowing back through valve. Remove the gas cap first. I would only remove the valve as a last resort, the entire fitting could easily twist out of the tank.

If air is what you are seeing, don't worry about it. It's just some air locked in the bowl. It will work out as it gets used and sloshed around.
