I am going to convert

I bragged yesterday about the points not being touched in 10 years, well it did not start today. The points are looking a little worse for the wear, so they need replaced. I had to replace the replacement condenser about 5 years ago. I filed the points and got it running, but do not like to run on filed points.

Going to get EI from this site.

This is 1950 Farmall H 12V negative with sideways distributor, can someone tell me the part number for EI?

Not to highjack David's post but when I bought the electronic ignition from this site I also bought the plug wires from this site. The wires are SS core. Are those bad like the copper wires? The Ford 3000 has had EI with the SS wires for 3 1/2 years now and still starting and running fine.

I always take the points out and inspect them. Most older points are better than any points you can buy new. All new points are plated I believe. Real points had a thick layer of contact material. I reface them with a Dremel. Never throw old points away, they don't make them anymore.

I follow the plan wire for mags, graphite for all else, graphite has been working fine since the 50s.

Looks like if it has an International distributor, it's a part # 1442.

A Delco is # 1142.

International cap has clips that reach to the top of the cap, Delco are down on the sides.

Ah, young jedi you are venturing down the path to the dark side!! Soon you will want tractors with power steering, cabs with air conditioning and leather interior, 4 wheel drive and gps with auto steer!! Lol!

I always let the gas run out on our Farmall C, and a week ago I left the switch on! Took awhile to get the battery charged enough for ignition, then I started it with the crank. It didn't seem to hurt the points though.

Some of the Pertronix kits are fine with copper wires. It all depends on which kit and if a plain Ignitor, Ignitor II, or Ignitor III. As the instructions will advise when the kit is bought. Standard Pertronix Ignitor for many tractor conversions if fine with copper wires.

I'm having a hard time understanding why some say to not use copper wires with the EI. The EI is just switching power and possibly dumping some stored energy if it is a capacitor discharge type to the primary side of the coil. What is connected to the secondary side of the coil seems like it should have little to no effect on the primary side of the coil.
