Using a Lenz filter base for diesel

I just bought a newer Mahindra 4510 that someone took the original glass filter and base off and installed a typical cheap inline fuel filter. I have a Lenz hydraulic filter base that has never been used, 1/2" ports and has tapped holes in the top for a bracket. I figured I could find a Lenz filter that would cross for diesel. Thoughts? Waste of time? Orifices too big?

If you can find a filter to fit the LNEZ base/"head" that is approved for diesel and has an appropriate (low) micron rating there's no reason you can't use it. Simply bush the ports down to the correct size, using a good fuel-rated thread sealant such as Gasoila to prevent leaks.

Looks like replacement cartridges for the original filter are in the 16 to 19 micron range.

The old "glass" filter setup likely served as a water separator "sediment bowl", as well, and water captured could be seen and dealt with.

When looking at possible filters look for one with the appropriate micron rating that is listed as a water separator , as well.

Not knowing what may be in the fuel tank it would be nice to find a new filter with a drain port (if possible) and drain it a little on a regular basis to note if any water is being captured.
