Oil out the exhaust

We have a 1950 John Deere B. We have be using it several times a week to run errands and suddenly one day it started spraying oil out the exhaust. It still fires right up and runs but you will be splattered with oil in short order if you try driving it. Sitting still it throws white smoke ring into the air. Where should I start with trouble shooting?

Check the oil level. Those carbs are
prone to leaking gas into the
crankcase. It is overfull and diluted
and gets past the rings and blows out
the exhaust. If this is the case
change the oil and filter, and turn
the gas off at the sediment bowl when
not in use.

Does it have an oil bath air cleaner? Might have it overfull. If it's been setting outside & it rained, the oil bath "can" may get water in it. The oil will float to the top & will suck into the carb & may blow out the exhaust.

Sounds like the spring(s) in the crank case ventilator pump are broken. That will make it do all those symptoms.
It is located in the fan shaft back about where the bevel gear drive connects to the governor housing.

After you check the oil level and all that and find nothing then you can proceed to change the pump. It is a time
consuming job but it will have to be done to stop all the oil blowing problems if it is not over full in the
crankcase. You have to pull the fan shaft to do it because that is where the pump is located. I worked at my
father's Deere dealership shop in the 50's & 60's and the "B" was very popular.

Ok, I have checked the first two things and ruled them out. I am ready to start thinking about the crank case ventilator pump. Do you have any more details for me. Do you know of a youtube video that would help?
