Bad Change Credit Card

I do not usually like to complain, but I believe this falls under a public service announcement.

Got my bill yesterday with 7 charges for PayPal all from the same vendor. Looked at my PayPal account and these charges were not on there.

Called up Chase Credit card and asked about them. I was asked are you certain, possibly some vendor uses PayPal to process, I was told. I said, no 7 on 2 days from the same vendor.

They looked and found these 7 charges were from an old credit card which they canceled back in January because it was being fraudulently charged.

I asked, "Wasn't the purpose of canceling the old card so no more charges would occur?"

What kind of card company is this? Charges from a canceled card still appearing. They took it very matter or fact and said we will remove these.

Think I'm going to a different credit card company as Chase is not doing much of a job.

My Visa card has on occasions will freeze my card when they find fraudulent charges.
Visa has sent me a new card if they think something is fishy.
One time I used card to buy a lawn sweeper from Walmart on line. Card thought something
was wrong, froze my card.
geo.

I had two paypal charges on my charge card a month ago that were fraudulent that did not show on my paypal account.
Charges were removed and new card quickly sent.

We had cards from chase wife had to cancel hers
because of fraud so she borrowed mine went to bed
bath and beyond chase called me wanting to know
if the charge was legit I told them yes called the
wife ask her what she was doing there and she
wanted to know how I knew so I told her she hadn?t
even left the parking lot

Not much to complain about, that I can see. You got fraudulent charges, they removed them, what's the problem?
Probably what happened: they were paypal charges, so probably someone bought stuff on line and just typed in the info from the old card. Paypal had no way of knowing that the card was bad, so went ahead and paid.

I had a text alert put on my Citi Card. I brought gas at the pump yesterday and had a alert before I got back in my truck to leave
the station. Brought chemicals on line and had a alert before I was done printing off my receipt. It might be something you might
want to look at doing.

Don't even get me started about Chase. We went round and round with them several years ago on a transaction the supposedly my step son had done, but couldn't have, because he was Army, active duty in Afghanistan at the time. We finally got it straightened out, or so we thought, but then Chase sent us a very sizeable reimbursement check. We deposited that check in step sons account with instructions to not touch it in case they decided they wanted it back. 15 years later, we have not heard from them.

Good luck with finding any kind of a credit card outfit (or equivalent) where this doesn't happen thousands and thousands of times every day. My advice, stay where you are and save yourself a big hassle of changing. Surely you don't think this isn't uncommon? Good luck with whatever you decide to do, they all take care of you when the dust settles.

My bank called me just yesterday because of
some strange activity with my card. Seems
someone tried to purchase $1500 worth of
electronics from Best Buy online, which it
was automatically declined, they knew it
couldn't be mine because it wasn't tractor
parts lol.

that's why I have life lock the last time I applied for a new loan I had text message is this you before I got in truck to leave bank.

Chase has nothing to do with this. It's VISA or Master Card.

When you were issued a new card, the old card was "linked" to it just in case you happened to have pending legitimate charges on the old card. That way they wouldn't get denied. This is what I was told by the bank the last time someone got ahold of my credit card numbers.

Looks like scammers have figured this out and are using the old numbers to make legitimate-looking charges to paypal.

Ok, so I'll play devil's advocate here.
Let's say you bought a BBQ at home depot,
got it home and then decided it was the
wrong one. However in the mean time, your
card has been hacked and you get a new
one.

Now you take it back to HD with your
receipt. They process the return like
normal. If the old card wasn't hooked to
your new card, then your refund would never
make it back to your account. I'm going to
go out on a limb and guess you would be
quite upset. Thus, whatever the credit
card company does, you won't be happy
with.

I guess I wasn't clear in mh original posting.

The fraudulent charges were from an already canceled card and those charges were showing up on my new card without notice they were from an already canceled card.

Makes canceling a card with Chase kind of pointless if they are still going to allow new charges and those charges will appear on your bill without even showing the customer what card was charged.

Chase accepted charges on a card number that had been cancelled.
A clear booboo by Chase that should not happen.

A return and credit back into the old, cancelled card account will go thru and show up in the new account.
Been there done that, it is not complicated.

The card was canceled in January and the charges were not in my PayPal account, but the card was still in my PayPal account which I now removed thanks to the advice here.

Still hope I will not receive charges from canceled cards. I guess canceled is a new marketing term which means something other than what I learned in school. Kind of like Affordable Taxes.
