build a half acre pond. deep end is app 25. ft the external .pump is 15 ft away from the pond .planing to run the suc. to the bottom with a check and strainner and discharge with outlet threw app. 200ft. of pipe. any ideals on a pump. thanks

If the pump is within 6 feet (elevation) of the water level, and you are pumping through 3/4" hose, a 1 hp pump will do. If
the discharge is more than 10' higher than pump level (and for every 10 feet more) I would add 1/2 hp to that. Jim

Well there are several hydraulic factors involved when choosing a pump. How many gallons per minute do you want, pipe size (friction loss), suction elevation and head/elevation from the pump among
other details. I would keep the suction inlet off the bottom despite using a strainer. You can effectively use a check valve on the suction side of the pump rather than a foot valve IF your
suction line is air tight. No leaks. Remember you have to figure in that suction elevation (water level in the pond to the pump). Ten feet or so will work. The less the better. Gas or electric
pump? Myers electric centrifugal pumps have worked great for us.

We use a 1 1/2 hp sprinkler pump to pump out of our lake, the water level is only 4 ft below our lawn. it will pump 40 gpm, but only at about
45 psi. Runs 10-12 sprinklers at a time.
