Cold and Snow

Woke up to about an inch of new snow and 28 degrees. Not the kind of scenery I want to see on May 9th. Guess I'll work on getting the radiator back in the GMC.

Rusty 6,

Bummer on the snow. About 40 F here this morning. Any recollection of the latest spring date you have had snow in the past? Nice video. I like your comment "Important junk" in the truck box. I think we all have that. A co-worker use to say "Provide a flat open space on a table or workbench and somebody will always fill it with junk". Seems to apply to a truck box too.

I admire your tenacity to do these videos. Certainly takes extra effort and I appreciate that.

Thanks Ron, but I don't go nearly as far as some of the real dedicated youtubers go. I've seen guys trying to work one handed while holding the camera. I won't do much of that before losing patience. Temp getting up to 40 now so a lot of the snow has melted by noon.

25 and a dusting here in NY this morning. Flurries all day. How it looks now.

It was the same here, snowed horizontally last night. Solid 2" here this morning, had to clean off the truck before heading out this morning.

Was high 20's last night. This poor guy fledged too early, his brother is still in the nest in my shed, his folks are right close, he's good. I've got this guy set up with a decent roost,he's eating well and very agile. This weather would have done him in. I even cut some more wood to get a fire going in the stove for him, toasty warm where he is. He'll go in a nearby pine soon for cover, his folks will find him right away. These are pretty easy to help, done it for years, often times they'll stick around and pay you a visit.

I was at tractor dealership yesterday for marker bearings for my corn planter, I asked them if the liquid fertilizer would freeze in the planter overnight, and if the ground is froze on top, will the corn still poke thru? lotsa laughs

For some reason, me too. I have saved and rescued many over the years. Most were released and flew away, having a just as good chance then before they were encountered and it's really nice to see that happen. Not every one will make it, they are delicate and if they get into a downward spiral, hard to get that turned around.

This guy was full of it this morning, big improvement since Thursday when he literally fledged right in front of me. The other one in the nest played it smart, stayed there with good cover during the bad weather. Both parents are feeding him well too. It's cheating too, they only have the 1 to care for right now while this one catches up. I've cheated, giving him some highly nutritious repto-min, (for turtles). He can fly pretty good, has good lift off. I'm contemplating his release right now, be good to give him another day or 2, problem is feeding during day being at work. 1st day he had to go about 8 hours, but has been fed hourly during the day since.

As soon as he flys he'll chirp, and or when hungry, those parents will be johnny on the spot as soon as they hear him, done deal. These are relatively easy to help out, don't take long and before you know it they are in the canopy following dad around while mom starts a new brood. The reward is when they sometimes come back, they're friendly cause you fed them, but will not depend on you, as they imprinted on their parents.
