Round up mix?

I had about 15 gallons, of round up mix in my 100 gallon sprayer, last fall, and poured it in a plastic barrel, to save for this season. Three weeks ago, I put it in a small 15 gallon spot sprayer, and used it on my fence rows, and some Scotch broom, and I see no results, now 3 weeks later. My question, is Does Round Up loose it's strength, from freezing and storage, when mixed?

I was always told it did. If you had a sprayer loaded and it set for a few days due to wind or rain to add some extra roundup to it. Tom

I believe it does loose something with freezing. I usually take mine inside in the winter. did you stir up the mix in the barrel? it does separate over time

I asked My neighbor about that and He told Me Ya got 2 days to spray it -then it starts loosing it killing power -- after 7 days you need to add the original amount of consentrate .. Thats all I know about that! Roy

I have used two year old Roundup successfully. Left over Roundup in the jug seems to be just as strong as it was last year, I dont see how mixing it with water can change it. Roundup that has been frozen needs to be shaken up real well but it still kills plants next year.

Once it's mixed with water you have 48 hours before it starts loosing it's strengh.also needs to be 55 degrees for the weeds to fully absorb the spray.

I had 2 gal mix in my hand sprayer from last fall. I sprayed it along some fence row and it worked just fine. It was kept where it could not freeze.
If you think about it, places like Lowes that sell the ready mixed Roundup has it on the shelf for a couple months, and from the time of production, shipping to a distribution center and then to the store it could be 4 months old by the time the end user applies it.

Roundup does not loose it's strength over time. I've used year old solution with good results, even after freezing. Your solution's strength may not be strong enough to kill a mature plant of that species. Try one or two applications and be patient.

Have done commercial spraying for 20 years. We will add more round up to the mix if it sits more than three days.Dont want any complaints.

You realize they have ready for use mixed products and are good for 4+ years. Concentrate has at least an 8 year shelf life. Freezing does not affect the product (glyphosphate), it will thaw and turn back into a solution.

After it's mixed and stored it doesn't really lose it's strength, but the surfactant included in the product will start breaking down around 6mos or so unless you used purified water, its the impurities in water that break down the surfactant. With the loss of the surfactant, it might seem less effective.

Well I went to the area, where I sprayed the fence row, this afternoon, and found some wilting, and browning of the grass, and weeds. It has been cool, and we have had frost, still, last week end. It looks like I am too impatient, and used to faster performance, in warmer weather. Thanks for the education.

I'm with Mark -Ia the warmer it is the faster the results. Cool to cold weather will take longer to work. Most times it will take a week to see much change in warm weather. And you're expecting results in a few days at close to freezing.

RTU, straight round up and roundup that has been mixed with water, all have a different degree of shelf life. the messages posted by people on this board cover all 3 in miss-mash selection! saying that is my last word!

Lots of comments. I always spray the day I mix it, so I can't comment on that, but I mix at 3 ounces/gallon in my backpack sprayer. I use the 51% concentrate which is the strongest you can buy. RoundUp takes a long time to show results in my opinion. I walk my 35 acres of woods spraying autumn olive and bush honeysuckle. 10 days later I sometimes see results. The funny thing is that bush honeysuckle will look healthy for a long time after spraying, but if I kick the bush the leaves fall off. Ellis
