How much paint

Need to paint the outside of my 16' stock trailer, going to use Rustoleum Hammered paint, it hides a lot. Spraying it on.

Doing the roof in aluminum roof paint, so we're talking the front, back and sides.

Have to order it, and can only get it in quarts. How much do you figure I'll need? Kinda thinking 6 quarts.

Not doing anything fancy. Wire brush on an angle grinder to knock off the crud, then paint.

Thanks

Try and estimate the number of square feet of surface you have and the paint shop can tell you how much coverage there is in a quart

Much depends on the following factors that will help.
Color change (from dark to silver/hammered takes a bit more than silver over silver)
Roughness of the surface (from pretty smooth to corrugated requires more)
Amount of thinner/reducer per unit paint (to get it to flow correctly)
Whether you put a hardener in it (adds volume to the total)
type of gun (related to thinner % but also pattern)

Why do you have to order it? If from a hardware store get the right to return unopened cans.
Sorry about not giving numbers. Jim

I would think 4 quarts would be plenty but go for the 6.
It's not expensive paint I personally would rather end up with 2 quarts extra than not have enough.

If you use a pressure pot and conventional spray gun you can put it on without thinners, covers real good.

Nobody has the gray hammered I want in stock, so have to special order...no returns.

No hardener, don't have the equipment for it.

Think I'm going to order the 6 quarts. If that's too much, well, I'm sure something will need painted in the future.

A little too much is better than to little. Enamel paint like that doesn't use much in the way of reducers, so it will take more paint. Are you painting this indoors or out doors? If you are painting it out doors I would use a hardener. Just a good rated respirator. The hardener with make it stay shinny way longer than with out.

On my painting jobs I always seem to run short, so I have taken to adding 50% to my best generous estimate, and it USUALLY is enough, but not always. On a job like that I have just used brush and roller and gotten acceptable results.

So I wound up having to order it anyway, nobody had that much in stock.

Wound up ordering from ACE hardware, and picking it up at the store.

Bought 7 quarts and 3 quarts xylene, got $15 off (about a quart of paint) for ordering that much.

And ACE will allow me to return unused quarts if I don't need them...thanks for pointing that out Janicholson

Thanks

(quoted from post at 16:10:06 05/07/20) Trying to make me feel guilty, Showcrop? :)

No, you didn't mention priming. Maybe you intend to, but my post meant no more than what it said.
