engine driven lincoln buzzbox

(quoted from post at 00:31:49 05/04/20) is it possible to put a engine on my buzzbox
f you drop the engine on the box from enough height, it will either stick or bounce off.

A real answer (if you want one) A buzz box is an electrical transformer using (usually) 220 volt alternating current. It plugs into the wall. To use it with a generator the the generator needs to be able to supply 220 volts AC with enough power to do the welding you need. Probably at least 30 amps of 220 AC output is needed. If you put the welder to hard use it would probably need 50 amps of 220 AC. It is a big generator. 11,000 to 12,000 watts Jim

Look for a Miller 1E or 2E engine driven welder. 2E is 225 amp 100% duty cycle (don't have to stop and let it cool).

2E will also supply 120 volt, 3500 watts at idle. Cannot weld and 120 volt at the same time.

There are others similar.

To answer your question, I would say no.

Why? because the welder has no means of generating power because it is only a transformer. There is nothing for the engine to operate inside of it. Just a big transformer and a cooling fan.

I have a 6500 watt generator to run My Lincoln buzz box. It easily runs it at 225 amps. I wish that I had bought the 5500 watt generator, because the most I ever weld with is 135 amps.

Just fine an engine drive welder/generator. I have a Lincoln I came across and I have never welded with it ,but I can have power anywhere I have gasoline.

no. we are saying that "typically" a buzz box welder is a step down transformer. From 220 to ~35 volts. This voltage reduction sucks up 10% or so if
the total power entering at 220, (it is why the welder gets warm in use) the remaining power stays at 90% of what it was. So now the voltage is
reduced, but the amperage is increased about a factor of 6 times. Thus if welding at 150 amps, 150/6=25, the load on the 220 will be 25 amps +10% lost
to heat. Jim
