TSX 464 carb, preparing for a new gasket.

Marvel Schebler TSX-464 carb off of a WD-45 I am working on. I have cleaned the carb up quite a bit, and spent a lot of time today removing the old gasket material with a razor blade. What do you guys think, am I ready to install a new gasket, or should I scotch brite pad the surfaces a bit before I go forward? Anything else I should double check before I go on? Had a lot of rust around the top of the drain plug and some black gunk at the base of the main jet screw, but otherwise seemed to be in decent shape. Tractor hasn't run in 8 years.

Your gasket surfaces look in fine shape! The most important thing , you can do , at this point, is get a set of torch tip cleaners, and run the aproprate sized wire cleaner, down each and every hole in the carb body, and then blow out each hole with compressed air. You might shoot some carb cleaner thru the cleaned holes, to test for them to have been opened up with your wire. Good luck! I have 2 wd45's with that carburetor.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it. The surface feels pretty smooth now. I have blown out all the passages with carb cleaner and compressed air; definitely got some nasty rust out, but all the passages seem clear now. Was in fairly good shape I felt like. Last step I worked on yesterday was cutting off the old gasket material; was rather tedious haha. Hoping to get it put back together next weekend.

Did you pull out the main nozzle ? It has small holes on the side that need to be clean, poking with wire an carb cleaner wont get them clean. Check out Soda Blasting on U tube, works wonders on cleaning up carbs.

This always seems to be the tough part of the job, but, as Jo Bird says, very critical.
You have to have a very good screwdriver with the exact width to get that main jet out. I have ground a screwdriver to the exact width solely for that purpose.
Even then, I have had to apply heat sometimes.

I don't think I took that part out? There are 2 or 3 brass screwdriver items it looks like. One or two in the bottom bowl and one in the top?

What else should I take out and clean while it is apart, and how careful do I need to be to not strip or over-tighten?

This pic is before I razor-bladed the old gasket gunk off.

Down in the parts break down , item 24A is the main nozzle which needs to be taken out to clean. Some times they are a bear to get out. Use a good straight sided screw driver with a square end that just fits down the hole and snugly in to the slot in the brass end. Their also may be a screen behind the brass supply elbow, check that out as well.
