I am out of pork, local lockers are taking reservations for next January, just talked to my neighbor he has reservations for 4H hogs processed in June and planned one for me.

Yay.
 
The locker we do business with is 3 months on pork, 11 months for beef. Don't ask for anything else.

I get my meats from Kroger's. Highly recommend trying this pulled pork.

I raised a champion pig and it sold for a dollar a pound. $220. I was in hog heaven.

I told my wife we cut our own deer, we could butcher a hog! She said she doesn't like pork that well! I would imagine if you were in the right area there are free hogs, they are killing thousands and burying them.
 
My dad said the same thing happened during the great depression. Farmers were killing their animals, no market, no money. They also burned their corn instead of coal. Sounds crazy the food banks and farmers couldn't get together some how instead of crops rotting in field, dumping milk, and killing animals.

local Slaughter houses around here are booked for the rest of the year .We book for 8 steers a year in advance for the middle of April every year.

Sounds great until you run into state and federal laws prohibiting such things.
Especially milk.
 
My grandpa used to tell the story about shipping hogs to stockyards during the depression.
When he got the final settlement he owed $3.25 in commissions and trucking. He wrote the commission company back and said he didn?t have $3.25 but he had some more hogs!
