Caked on Grease Removal

I bought an Oliver 880 at auction that has a loader with a leaking hydraulic cylinder, must have been leaking for years!! Filthiest mess I ever tackled, oil and dirt mix, caked and baked on the frame and motor. I scrapped some off, worst places were over an inch thick. I washed the easy stuff off with the power washer, but there is still a lot that just laughs at the power washer and hangs on.What can I put on it to cut the caked on grease and dirt? I wondered about putting E-85 on it and let it soak, I have heard of using oven cleaner from the Dollar Store, spray gas on it. What works? Too many places that you can see but not reach to try to scrape. What do you all do??? Chris

Straight Purple Power if you don't mind loosing some paint, or water it down about 1/2 strength.

Oven cleaner, drain cleaner, diesel.

It will come off, keep trying different chemicals, soaking and blasting. Wear your goggles!

Oven cleaner will strip paint. Be careful. I would be using hot water and purple power/simply green/foaming engine cleaner. It will take time to undo the years of neglect.

if you can find someone with a live steam cleaner, that would do it. not a hotsy hot water pressure washer altho its better than cold pressure washer. i did a restore for a customer a while back on a 49 farmall m, ended up using putty knives, scrapers, old wood chisels and dental picks. get a bar stool to sit on. it takes a while.

I have mixed gas with purple power, sometimes you have to go remove it in layers!! Takes a good power washer with at least 2500 psi and one of those turbo rotating or pulsating nozzles work very good too!!!!!! I don?t know how they work but they are 10 times better then a plain spray tip!!!

My power washer will do steam, soak thing in purple power than hit with the steam.

You WILL be a mess.

My 1030 had decades of old gunk on it. Pressure was just wasn't getting it. Oven cleaner took it off. Paint is still on under it, but it did fade the paint.

Purple power and diesel fuel When I cleaned this pig I spent many many hours and several gallons of purple power and diesel and pressure washer to get it ready to paint still had to scrape some of the worst and wire wheel . You could of sanded it and painted some of that grease and it would have never came loose

Brush some solvent on let soak and it will come off. You will have to keep appling it as it soaks in then will wash off. Sort of like when you clean parts in it.

Oven cleaner, potassium hydroxide, is the strongest that you can get. The problem is that it still has to penetrate. I learned forty years ago that even though I can get all the oven cleaner that I want for nothing, and I have a hot water pressure washer, the easiest way is to scrape the heavy accumulation off. Even underneath, it is still easier to scrape first while lying on my creeper. The key is to do the scraping before the washing.
