Can anyone tell me what the extra attachment is on this plow. I assume its to help turn over sod, but maybe to rake out trash too? Thanks!

Leveling the lumpiness of the turned over soil. it would plug up in a hundred yards if used in trash or corn stalks. Jim

Try work good even in corn stalks. They pivot up so they rid over corn stalks. They do help a lot to level the ground. We used to use one on the sandy round and then just plant right in the plowing. Wasn't great, but ok. My brother used a brillion packer hooked to his plow for quite a few years. He has some loose sandy soil and it worked great there to spring plow with the packer and plant right in it.

My grandfather had them on his plow. They worked the soil a little as it rolled off the plow moldboards. They were spring loaded to help with stones . I remember if it was weedy or cornstalks they would build up a clump then when it got too big the tines would ride up and over it.Usually discing ahead of the plow would take care of that issue. They actually worked pretty good in proper conditions and I imagine would work even better on sandier soil compared to our clay loams . I cant tell you who made them but possibly they were bought at TSC back when it was more of a farm store. I seem to remember it was fairly easy to remove them .

Jim back in my days you disced the cornstalks twice and when finished plowing your field looked looked nice and smooth as it just was the custom to pull a harrow also no trash ever showed. Those who did not and their fields look "ugly" and always were a topic but that the way it was

What TSC sold and what is in that Ih video are different. Were not thought enough to have ever seen one in my part of the country

We have either a Ford or Ferguson plow that has those attached, they look a little different but the same idea. I was told they were lump breakers.

They are to smooth the ground as you plow. When I was a kid, Grandad would always harrow the ground as soon as he got done plowing to level it out, those saved an extra trip across the field. Chris

Back in the 60?s when I was a teenager my dad had that setup on our 3 bottom Oliver plow. It never plugged with corn stalks or trash.

Yes I watched the video and see the difference. The ones I am talking about are not the IH version but just about like the original poster has with one attachment for each bottom. I dont remember them being real popular around here either but my grandfather did like the ones he had as he felt they saved one trip with the disc or drags. I think they would work better in sandier soil. Imam not positive they came from TSC it could have been from Central Tractor or even the Sears farm store or farm catalog. He did buy a lot of stuff off Sears at one time like water pumps , oil and grease and also a lot of things for the house. For years we had old steel 5 gal and 2 gal Sears oil cans we used for gas cans till they got too rusty.
