John Deere MT Paint Scheme accuracy

Ok I'm new to this forum, but I am hoping to find out more on the paint scheme of my newly purchased John Deere MT serial # 38733.

All pictures I've seen of this tractor are solid JD green. However the grill and hood on mine have a yellow stripe. It looks good, but I'm going for accuracy.

I want to know if it was a limit paint scheme only done on later models or if it was done in a barn 20 years after it left the factory.

Thank you for your time.

My cousin, 20 years my senior, had a 620 when I was a child. Or so I thought, until one day, my father straightened me out. Cousin, who liked his new vehicles and tractors, had purchased a 60, probably about the time the 620 came out, and had his 60 painted like the 620. Apparently he wasn't the only one with a paint job upgrade!

Thanks everyone for the fast responses. Solid green it is!

Really might have to fight my brother on this one, he thinks the stripe looks good, but I'm the one putting in the cash and time so I'll have the final say haha.

Welcome to the forum SZ, lots of good info on here for you. Here's my answer ..... don't you dare paint that tractor .... ha! It's a beautiful original tractor in its work clothes and I say leave it as is. And that yellow stripe is part of its story. I would tell people if asked that it was a one-off that the factory was experimenting with a design change. Remember that it's only original once.

This is my "M" after a couple of intensive months in the shop. It had been solid rust red, not a trace of paint remaining. Bought it sight unseen knowing it was set up tight. When I pulled the head I could see right down into the base through what had been the pistons. Been a nice working unit ever since, hauling wood and raking hay. This is the color scheme you want if you do paint it. If it were mine I think I might leave it as is.

Crazy Horse, if you read all of the posts you may change your opinion.

Szilvay, My observation is that 2/3 of the time when someone thinks that their new to them tractor still has its original paint it turns out to be just a rusted forty year old repaint.

Take a look at "Mac" one of our 51MTs.

"Mac" came with a yellow stripe on the hood and a grille from an MC.

Spruced him up a bit to look better.

Showcrop .... yeah I read them, but it doesn't change my mind. I like it as is, more interesting. Anyways, each to his own right?
